It's always amazing how fast the weeks fly by, and here it is almost 5 weeks without a blog post.  Been in the midst of things and it is always exciting.  

Received notice that some of my acquaintances moving to new adventures in their careers, I will miss working with them to increase awareness of open source alternatives.  Renata & Marc, you have both been great!

Over the past two weeks, I've been working to organize a CrisisCamp in Calgary.  It was the 1 of 4 happening in Canada this weekend.  Based on Barcamp, the focus was on solutions to aid the NGO"s and responders on the ground in Haiti. The code base is all open source and can be modified for other disasters that may occur globally.

Well here is the video I created on my experience loading Debian Linux on the NAS SS4000e. During the process of creating this video I moved from Kino to Open Shot as my video editor. Editing in Open Shot was a lot easier but it seems to be unable to co-ordinate the sound and video correctly, resulting in sections with empty frames and, of course,  making the vidoe look dubbed.

Well a belated Happy New Year to everyone and I hope 2010 is better than 2009. I don't suppose that will be hard though given it was such a bad year. In keeping with tradition I made a whole bunch of new year resolutions and one of them is to put more time into the OTE web site and the podcast. The only prerequisite for this is to first make some more money so as to have more free time!

In the interview with Marc Lepage, Marc mentions the amongst others, a new existing initiative in Uganda, called Fixed in Uganda, which will try to engage Ugandan ICT professionals into global FOSS and Creative Commons projects.

Fixed in Uganda is a competition that awards people for their involvement in FOSS and Creative Commons projects.

Is capacity building just more buzz words used by NGO's to further their agendas in developing countries?  Over the course of 2009, I have engaged with many FLOSS advocates who believe that with the use of Open Source solutions, that this indeed can be a reality.

For any Ubuntu user the need to sudo all the time can be irritating especially when the last command you typed needs to be retyped to pass it to sudo.

Well I found a cool short cut just run "sudo !!" and this will rerun the last command typed with sudo! A real time saver!
